The Creative Space of the 141 Bus

One of my favourite urban creative spaces is the top deck of the 141 bus. I’ve tried other buses – the 29 to Camden, the 4 to Waterloo, the 141 to the City – but none of them are as good. It must be down to the route, the slightly rural feel of Green Lanes and the earlu Victorian suburbia of Southgate Road. Whatever is going on with the 141, somehow being on it helps me think more clearly and I’m able to outrun negative feelings. Time becomes something different. I like it as an office space and it has the advantage of not having any of other crap. I always think clearly, especially sitting at the front. The height gives me overview.  I think I understand that problem with focus… it’s so hard when you have a range of things that are in your head to worry about. But the slow movement of the bus relaxes me into some kind of alpha state, while the flickering houses and peeling shop fronts strip away the chatter and diffusion I often feel.
